Madchester Grosvenor: Night 2

After having such a good time the night before we tried to retrace our steps and find the casino from the night before, alas none of us knew our way around Manchester, we didn't know street names or could even remember where we'd been, so we struggled.

Giovanni had given us a business card the night before so we could try out his restaurant but we had lost that, and couldn't remember the name of the place, so that was also a dead end. After a fair bit of wondering and asking for directions we arrived at the Grosvenor Casino. Only it wasn't 'our' Grosvenor Casino, but surely they knew where the other one was, so the same motley crew from the night before waited in line to talk to the girl at the front desk, and when it was our turn, we ended up having the following 'conversation':

Us: (not in unison or anything but we were all trying to answer at varying times): "hi there, where is the other Grosvenor Casino?"
Girl: "are you members?"
Us: "we are at the other Grosvenor"
Girl: "ok, fill out these forms"
Us: "no, we're looking for the other Grosvenor, do you know how to get there?"
Girl: "you have to fill out the forms, or you can't get in"
Us: "we don't want to come in, we want to go to the other Grosvenor Casino"
Girl: "you need to fill in the forms"

Alas, some of the group had caved and started filling in the forms but me and a couple of the guys persisted.

Us: "we were at the other Grosvenor Casino last night, we asked for directions but we ended up here, can you tell us where the other Grosvenor is?"
Girl: "I can't help you if you don't fill in the forms"
Us: "so if we fill in the forms, you'll tell us where the other casino is?"
Girl: "fill in the forms, please"
Us: "can you just tell us where the other casino is?"
Girl: "you need to fill in the forms, or let the people behind through"
Us: "right, but if we fill these in, you'll tell us where the other casino is?"

She slid us some blanks forms, before greeting the next in line.

We fill out the forms and when she's free again, she does her adminstration bit and points towards the doors to the casino floor.

Us: "right, can you tell us where the other Grosvenor casino is now?"
Girl: "the casino is through the doors"
Us: "no, the other Grosvenor casino, I don't think it's that far away from here, we were there last night, do you know how to get there?"
Girl: "I'm afraid you will have to go into the casino, or leave"

And with that, we realised stupidity or damn right stubbornness had prevailed and we shuffled dejected into the much posher but certainly not nicer casino, it had no soul.

The poker cash games were full, and too expensive for me, certainly not the place for drunken tomfoolery, so I just got a drink and watched the others gamble. The groom cleaned up on blackjack despite sticking to minimum bets, while the others bet bigger but fared less well.

After some time, we left the casino, longing for our fun Casino from the night before, and somehow, as we walked the streets of Manchester looking for a taxi or better still the hotel we were staying in, we stumbled across the George Street Grosvenor Casino, our casino from the night before! We headed inside, but not for some gambling action but a friendly face and hopefully the number for a taxi 'home'.

The girl at this front desk gave us a taxi number, without having to fill out a form, and chatted with us while we waited. Apparently we'd been a hit the night before, she'd even looked us up on the system and saw that we'd been to the other Grosvenor, which we felt we had to explain why we had been there rather than where we were now.

So if you're in Manchester and looking for a fun and friendly place to play some cards, roulette or what have you, go to the George Street Grosvenor Casino

If you're looking for a total moron who cannot be reasoned with, visit her on the front desk at the
Whitworth Street Grosvenor Casino
