SCOOP 2024 - The Prologue

The Spring Championship Of Online Poker (SCOOP) is upon us and as with every big series, once the schedule has been released, I like to break it down to see which tournaments stand out as my must plays. Ideally, I'd like to play everything but bankroll, work, family and life in general get in the way of that, so working around those things I have the following list:

Broadly speaking, that's the hold'em and omaha tournaments that you can register after 8:30pm UK time and the main events. I'm not bankrolled to play anything above the low buy-ins but I was hopeful I could PowerPass my way to some bigger buy-in tickets but so far I have only managed to secure one $109 ticket, which I am reserving for the low hold'em main event, so unless I squeeze in some satellites successes, I'll be sticking to the low versions.

This year Pokerstars have introduced the inaugural "SCOOP League" in which the brand ambassadors have split into four teams, and I guess there will be some friendly banter amongst the pros as they battle it out over the course of this year's SCOOP. But there's another added wrinkle to the format, some of us normies have been given the chance to join a team. A few players will get hand picked, through being active in the streamers communities and then if you’ve signed up to the streamers home games, you get a shot at qualifying for the team by finishing in the top 5 in one of eight(?) 50cent tournaments. Given my limited schedule for this year's SCOOP, joining a team wasn't on my radar, however, top 10 in each tournament would also win a $215 tournament ticket, for 50 CENTS! And that seemed liked incredible value, so I registered for one of Benjamin Spragg's homegame tournaments. The tournament went very well. Got lucky once, won a few flips and only suffered one bad beat, but was chipleader at the time so still had a playable stack and recovered well, using my satellite acumen to finish it out on top!

That's entry to the 'low' PLO main event secured and I think that makes me part of Spraggy's  SCOOP League team. I say "I think" because SCOOP is about to begin and I haven't had any confirmation of that, so we'll see if that happens or not, for what its worth.

I guess there's not much expectation for us average Joes to do much as part of this promotion, but as  I'm part of it, seems like I should do what I can, so I have created this blog to chronicle my incredible rise to the top... or not.
